Brave Boots 

This story happened in a little place called Blossom; Two small girls and their older brother, all a year apart, were home, alone. They were probably a bit too young to stay alone, but these three were having a great time playing hide and seek in their tiny home, which had only 3 main rooms: kitchen at the back, bedroom in the middle and a front room. Certainly there weren’t a lot of places to hide, but the game was going well until it started to get dark. Then, shadows and noises quickly made the idea of hiding way too scary. When the floor creaked in the kitchen and they realized they weren’t alone in the house, they all headed for the front room, where there was a door they could shut to feel safer. As they were dashing for safety, their brother did something that at the time seemed just plain crazy. 

He stopped, opened the closet, found his cowboy boots and slid them on! No sooner did they make it to the front room and close the door, then the intruder began pulling and banging on it. The girls were screaming while the brother was getting yanked back and forth, doing his best to hang on to that door. Luckily, everything turned out fine. It turned out it was just their teenaged uncle trying to scare them!  Years later, these three still talk of how frightening this experience was for them and they always bring up the cowboy boots!  It made no sense that someone would take the time, while running from what felt like certain death, to stop and put on those cowboy boots! However, the explanation makes perfect sense to the one who still wears cowboy boots some 50 plus years later! He claims those boots made him feel stronger and BRAVER! Once he had those boots on his feet he could face any situation with more COURAGE, and because he truly believed that, for him, it was true! Blossom Brave is our way of doing what those boots did...helping our girls and yours feel BRAVE!
